The Eye Opener names George Washington 2nd Greatest Canadian

The CBC's Greatest Canadian series proves that Canadian schools have failed to teach history and that television has blurred fame and greatness. The CBC has invited each and every Canadian to vote. The latest result: Frederick Banting; Alexander Graham Bell; Don Cherry; Tommy Douglas; Terry Fox; Wayne Gretzky; Sir John A. Macdonald; Lester B. Pearson; David Suzuki; Pierre Elliott Trudeau.

The Eye Opener knows better and disagrees with each and every selection. Here, without question, are the Greatest Canadians:

  1. The Raven - She brought humankind to the Western Hemisphere
  2. George Washington and John Adams - Without an independent United States, Canada wouldn't exist. During the American Revoulution Adams persuaded French King Louis XVI to protect to shield the new United States with the French navy. Washington defeated the British army. In 1787 Adams authored the main provisions of the United States Constitution.
  3. Samuel de Champlain - He established the first permanent European settlement in Canada.
  4. Sir Guy Carelton - He founded the partnership between English and French in Canada
  5. Sir William Van Horne - The "Greatest Railway General" ever. Canada spanned the North American Continent because Van Horne built the Canadian Pacific Railway. An artist, he established Canadian architecture.
  6. Louis Riel - He stopped Central Canada from using Western Canada as a colony.
  7. Emily Carr - She grafted aboriginal genius into the heart of the Canadian identity.
  8. Sir Clifford Sifton - He settled Western Canada with tough ambitious immigrants, "stalwart peasants in sheep-skin coats" he called them, from wherever in Europe he could find them so long as they were white (unfortunately, like so many in his day, he was a racist).
  9. Tom Thompson and the Group of Seven - They grafted the Canadian landscape into the heart of the Canadian identity.
  10. Punch Dickins - Canada's top bush pilot - he and his comrades opened Canada's North.
