The DVD -- The American Experience: Clinton

The Clintons: How the King and the Duchess took over the Hen House
The Clintons: How the King and the Duchess took over the Hen House
"Mad, bad and dangerous to know" - Lady Caroline Lamb of her lover Lord Byron
PBS's American Experience aired its four hour documentary on the Clinton presidency this week. American literature is full of con artists --- mainly there for belly-laughs --- take Mark Twain's The King and The Duke --- a couple of low-grade Mississippi psychopaths. --- It didn't take Huck Finn long to make up his mind that "these liars warn't no kings nor dukes at all, but just low down humbugs and frauds." Well the American people (along with The American Experience and the Toronto Globe and Mail) still haven't made up their minds about the Clintons. I gotta roll my eyes when John Doyle, in the Globe and Mail, excuses the Clintons on account that they are "baby boomers" and "rock-and-rollers". In 1992, the American people fired that symbol of U.S. privilege, George Bush Senior. "I won't be like George Bush," Clinton told the American middle class and all the little people of America. There were tears and there were hugs. "Ah feel your pain. Ah'll clean it all up. ... I'll be there for ya' till the last dog dies ..." --- in short, Clinton was a "reformer". And, like most reformers, after the election, Clinton climbed into bed with the big bad wolves of American capitalism --- he threw them the U.S. welfare system; he threw them fat cat tax cuts that didn't "trickle down" to Mr. and Mrs. America; he threw free passes to export little people jobs to sweat shops in Mexico --- whatever red meat would keep Clinton's betters a lovin' him, he threw them. In the competence department, the Clintons couldn't manage their way out of a paper bag --- to shore up the Clinton's reformist reputation, Bill turned health care reform over to Hillary who, apparently, wore the family pants (she thought), and she bungled it at every turn ... But, American Experience fires back, didn't the Clintons create employment for the American worker??? --- No, the fact is that the Federal Reserve Board and the U.S. Treasury would have created the employment without The King and The Duchess. And, in fact, when the Federal Reserve was set to stop the "irrational exuberance" of the "Dot.com Bubble" on Wall Street, Bill Clinton forced Fed Chairman Allan Greenspan to lay off. The bubble burst. The inequality of the 1% versus the 99% wouldn't exist were it not for the Clintons, the foxes in the Hen House --- in the 20 years since the Clintons got into the Hen House, anyone stuck in America's middle class or below has fallen back. The year before last, the Clintons threw a three million dollar wedding for their daughter while 25% of the daughters of Americans lived in poverty --- the rock-and-rollin' boomers from Arkansas have made it big --- right into the One Per Cent Club --- the privileged 1% of the American population who own 65 % of America's wealth --- a club it's a ton harder to get into than it was 20 years ago ...

The American Consumer Wars: The Joker upstages Luka Rocco Magnotta
"The corruption of the American soul is consumerism." - Ben Nicholson
According to The New York Times's David Brooks:
the weight of the evidence is pretty clear that there's no relationship between gun control and violent crime

.... I don't have any idea whether Brooks is right or wrong. The World Socialist Website claims Brooks is simply protecting his cozy nest within America's liberal establishment.

Guns aren't the problem. America's insane love affair with "consumerism" is. Under the noses of Brooks and his fellow liberals --- encouraged by them, American capitalism has brainwashed North Americans into the Cult of ME-ME-ME --- SEEME-SEEME-SEEME --- MIRROR-MIRROR-ON-THE-WALL (otherwise known as "hedonism/narcissism"). It's good for business --- if an American loves himself --- he/she'll buy for ME and the more ME buys for ME, why the more Mommy and Daddy and the Joneses next door will SEEME-ME-ME.

In due course, Eric Newman (alias "Luka Rocco MagnottaThe Joker") are as certain to come as the night after the day. As I speak Magnotta's is a tortured soul --- The Joker has upstaged him.

May Hell have no mirrors...

The Republican leadership struggle
"As for the current GOP field, it's like confronting a terminal diagnosis. There may be an apparent range of treatments: conventional (Romney), experimental (Gingrich), homeopathic (Paul) or prayerful (Santorum). But none will avail you in the end. Just try to exit laughing." - Bret Stephens

Could Steve Jobs have succeeded in Canada?
"Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes... the ones who see things differently -- they're not fond of rules... You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things... they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do. " - Steve Jobs
For Steve Jobs, there was no authority but Steve Jobs --- in semi-colonial Canada, everyone kowtows to authority. Steve Jobs was all Can-Do-Now --- in Canada there's plenty of room for Can't-Do-Nevers. Steve Jobs believed in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness --- Canadians believe in peace, order and good government. Steve Jobs hung things out --- Canadians dam things up. Steve jobs was addicted to hard work --- most Canadians are not addicted to anything. Steve Jobs was not a nice guy --- in the U.S. of A., nice guys finish last --- in Canada, nice guys sometimes finish first. Most Canadians sleep well at night...

"Immigration is the sincerest form of flattery." - Jack Paar
Even though I was born a slave, I sometimes sits and thinks that maybe I was almost born at the right time. Because, if I was wanting to move to Canada today, I'd have to lie and steal to bring my assets (after debts) to over a million and a half dollars and loan another $800,000 to a provincial government and pay 10 or 20 thousand more to crooked "immigration consultants"...

The Trayvan Martin case --- lynch mob justice?
"The man who shot the black teenager in Florida may be as guilty as sin, for all I know or he may be innocent, for all I know. We pay taxes so that there can be judges and jurors who sort out the facts. We do not need Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton or the President of the United States spouting off before the trial has even begun." - Thomas Sowell
I grew up in the days of the lynch mob. No judge, no jury --- just a mob --- stirred up, most often, by rumours and Ku Klux propaganda and white trash rabble rousers. Anglo-Saxon justice requires that an accused is innocent until proven guilty by fact-based first-hand evidence in a fair trial before a judge learned in the law. The mob didn't try you --- they murdered you. The victims were always black. But the lynch mob in the Trayvan Miller case is mainly made up of black hoodie-boys stirred up by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and Spike Lee ... and ... the media turns a blind eye --- even Margaret Wente blathered on in the Globe about Florida's self defense law --- Wente ignored the fact that propaganda and mob rule and the media were destroying American justice ...

Can any Republican beat Obama?
"The Republicans ... are having a hard time getting their members to act as a unit instead of like a bunch of six-year-olds playing anarchist soccer; three teams, two goals, you decide." - Rachel Maddow
Now that Jon Hunstsman has surrendered, the great appeaser, Obama, will probably win by default. In the era of Occupy movements, can a 15%-taxed-Romney seriously contend for the presidency? But says Romney: "At least I'm not a flake or a nut."...

"Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth upon this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure." - Abraham Lincoln
I'll copy from Winston Churchill and say that the Civil War in America was the most unsordid act in human history. But President Obama listened to his propagandists and didn't attend the 150th anniversary. Trouble is --- 150 years after it started ---the war isn't over. In law, the war freed the slaves --- in fact, southern nazis --- before they were called nazis --- soon reenslaved them. At the end of that war ... the south should have been denazified ... just like Germany right after World War II...
