B.C. Ferries president David (Cap) Hahn plugs one leak, springs another. From an affidavit released by fired B.C. Ferries safety director Capt. Darin Bowland, ferry customers learned today that, in 2004, after Hahn fitted out his ferries with steering mode selectors, Hahn failed to follow up with training his bridge crews how to operate the selectors - so, in December 2004, the untrained crew of the Spirit of British Columbia came within 14 seconds of ramming her up onto the rocks of Active Pass. A year later, B.C. Ferries officers were still not steering selector trained - so, in March of this year, the Queen of the North 's bridge crew rammed the North on to Gil Island, killed two passengers. Capt. Bowland's affidavit fired another torpedo into the good ship Hahn - turns out Hahn hadn't trained his crew to inspect the anchor release on the Queen of Oak Bay - so, in June 2005, the Oak Bay couldn't drop anchor, crashed into the docks at Horse Shoe Bay. Hahn (totally without experience at sea) has proven to be a lousy spin doctor as well - he has no sense of timing - in the midst of trying to bail himself out, Hahn chose to announce he was dumbing down bridge officer qualifications.
